Editorial Assessment

Sometimes you’re too close to your manuscript to see what it needs next.

An editorial assessment gives you a comprehensive, big-picture evaluation of your work without taking the story out of your hands.

I begin with two questions:

What are you really trying to say?

What does your reader need in order to understand, trust, and stay engaged with it?

From there, I examine structure, narrative connections, gaps and unanswered questions, reader experience, areas that may need stronger research or support, and the strengths already working in your manuscript.

Your assessment includes:

• A comprehensive editorial letter

• Comments throughout the manuscript

• Questions designed to deepen or clarify the work

• Structural recommendations

• Reader-centered observations

• Research and fact-checking flags

• A follow-up conversation to discuss findings and next steps

Revision Partnership

The assessment doesn't have to be where our work ends.

For writers who want continued support, I offer ongoing developmental guidance through the revision process. Depending on the manuscript, this may include reviewing revised sections, strategizing structural changes, answering editorial questions, or completing a second developmental pass.

Revision support is tailored to the needs and pace of each project, with the goal of moving your manuscript toward the point where you're confident in its structure, direction, and reader experience—and ready for the next stage of editing.

Freelance Editorial Support

While developmental editing is at the center of my practice, I selectively take on projects requiring closer sentence-level or final-stage editorial attention.

Depending on the project, this can include clarity, word choice, flow, grammar, consistency, readability, and final proofreading.

For publishers and editorial teams, these services can also be incorporated into broader freelance assignments.
